Introduction

Iberia is the national flag carrier for the Spain with its headquarters and global hub located at the Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas International Airport (MAD). Founded in 1927, It joined the OneWorld global alliance in 1999.

In 2010, Iberia was purchased by British Airways to form a new company called the International Airlines Group (IAG). Both airlines continue to operate under their current brands.

Iberia connects 109 destinations in 39 countries, with an additional 90 destinations through their codesharing partners.

Fast Facts

• Iberia has been an ambassador and promoter of Spanish artists for decades. In 1981 they flew Pablo Picasso’s Guernica painting from exile in New York City to its new home in Madrid.

• In 2016, a documentary called “The Guitar Flies” was released about Maestro de Lucia’s last guitar as it travelled on Iberia flights to be played by some of Spain’s greatest musical artists The documentary is available on Iberia’s inflight entertainment system.

• Iberia has a 250-title digital library of world literature - which all passengers get for free on special dates such as Book Day (April 23).
