Alitalia (a portmanteau of “wings” and “Italy”) is the national flag carrier of Italy with a headquarters in Fiumincino Rome and main hub at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport, Rome (FCO). It was originally founded in 1947, and after several changes in name and ownership, went into administration in 2017. The Italian government is currently funding the airline while a suitable buyer is evaluated.
