Cathay Pacific Airways Limited is the national flag carrier for Hong Kong with its headquarters and global hub located at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). Founded in 1946, it is a founding member of the OneWorld global alliance.
They are an award-winning and globally reputable airline, winning “Worlds Best Airline” four times from Skytrax and consistently ranking as one of the best airlines in the world overall.
• ‘Cathay’ in an alternative name for China in English, and was used in Marco Polo’s book on his travels to China.
• Their first aircraft was affectionately named ‘Betsy’ and was sold in 1955. She was rediscovered 30 years later flying cargo in the Australian outback. Cathay bought the aircraft back, repainted her, and she now sits suspended from the ceiling at the Hong Kong Science Museum.
Marco Polo Club was founded in 2003 and has become a celebrated mileage reward program controlled by Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon. It offers four types of awards: promotional, classic, flex, and round-the-world. They are one of the last airlines to continue to offer the around-the-world option, which starts at 14,000 miles with six stopovers and a maximum of three continents.
