Introduction

Qantas Airways Ltd. is the national flag carrier for Australia and the third oldest airline in the world, founded in 1920. Their headquarters is in Sydney, with a main hub at Sydney Airport (SYD) and 4 additional hubs in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth. They are a founding OneWorld global alliance member.

The name ‘Qantas’ comes from an acronym for it’s original name: Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services. It’s nickname is ‘The Flying Kangaroo’.

• The Hollywood movie Rainman was marketing gold for Qantas: in the 1988 film autistic Ray (Dustin Hoffman) refuses to get on a plane because he will only fly Qantas because they had never crashed.

• Qantas began flying its new non-stop route from Perth to London. Covering a distance of more than 9,000 miles, and taking 17 hours, 20 minutes, the new flight is not only the first commercially scheduled non-stop service between Australia and Europe, but it also ranks as the new second-longest flight in the world by distance and Qantas's own new longest flight!



Frequent Flyer Program

Qantas Frequent Flyer program is simply called Qantas Frequent Flier. It award points based on miles. The program has been under fire in the past regarding lack of availability of seats for members redeeming points - however, earning points is easy.
