Busiest flight routes in the world

A South Korean domestic flight has been named the busiest flight route in the world, according to aviation industry analyst OAG.

The 1 hour 10 minute flight from Seoul to Jeju City was flown 64,991 times last year, an average of 178 flights per day.

What’s so special about Jeju City?

Located just off the coast of South Korea is the island of Jeju. It attracts thousands of holiday makers each year. Jeju Island features the highest mountain in South Korea, the dormant volcano of Hallasan. An early start will see you hike up and down the volcano in a day.  Surrounded by a 224-kilometre semi-tropical national park, Hallasan is the centre point of the island.

Jeju Island is also the home to the longest lava tube in the world. The Manjang cave is more than eight kilometres long. Formed by cooling lava, the cave is no place for the claustrophobic. The cave is often narrow, dark, cold and slippery with water. Contrasting to the cave is Jeju’s beautiful sandy beaches, which are perfect for swimming and surfing. For something a little more exotic, Loveland is an over-the-top adult theme park which is not for those who get offended easily.

Other busy routes

Some of the busiest domestic flights include Melbourne to Sydney in Australia with 54,519 flights in 2017 and Mumbai to Delhi in India with 47,462 flights. The busiest USA route was Los Angeles to San Francisco with 34,897 flights.

Flights from Hong Kong to Taipei, clocked up 29,494 trips, making it the busiest international route. Closely followed by Kuala Lumpur to Singapore with 29,383 flights and Jakarta to Singapore with 26,872 flights. Asia commanded the top five spots for busiest international routes.
