‘Bleisure’ is a new travel trend that combines business travel with leisure activities. It generally means adding a few days to the beginning and/or end of a business trip to mix work with pleasure and get the most of your time on the road.
It’s not in the dictionary yet, but bleisure is astronomically rising as a common practice with millennials, currently the biggest working population in the world. And companies are supporting this shift, in fact 57% of companies now have a policy implemented for employees to extend their business trips for vacation time.
This freedom creates a new meaning for work-life balance that allows you to let out your inner adventurer and blur the boundaries of your work and personal life in any place, at any time.
For many of us, being tied to our smartphone or laptop means we can be readily accessible at every moment. As a result, when we travel for work, we are always on. Conference calls, emails, last minute proposals and demanding clients can dominate late nights, early mornings, and everything in-between.
Knowing that we can blend our responsibilities with exploration, entertainment, and relaxation on the road makes the pace of our ever-expanding world a lot more bearable and a lot more enticing. Incorporating leisure to business travel has even been shown to reduce travel-related stress and up overall productivity in the workforce.
